Sportival on point

concept
From dumbbells to chess move, from play field to tightrope: no matter how different our focus may be or which muscle we move – what connects all of our sports is when the pulse rises and the heart beats faster! Tactics, rhythm and adrenalin unite us to a common passion. Tolerance, synergies and openness connect us to a unique, large team. Let's all get together when hamburg says: Being part of it is only the very beginning!
who we are
we're soccer buddies, breakdance brides, climbing beasts, basketball giants, Wii gamblers, judo disciples, hockey brothers, chess kings, badminton rackets, high jump icons, sports fashion kittens, ping pong stallions, deep diving fighters, Ballet princes, rowing professionals, boxing champions, weight lifters, dart shooters, juggling acrobats, yoga students, e-athletes, grandstand clappers, medal collectors, cup polisher and team mascots, good losers and fair winners. and we need more than a common fair. We need a festival. We need a sports festival. in short: SPORTIVAL!
what we do
The opulent exhibition halls are located in the heart of the hanseatic city. At just about 100.000 m², we breathe our spirit into the fair. The Sportival starts of on Thursday, 29th of August with the Sportival Summit for specialist audience, followed by the big public-opening for all visitors on Friday. Between the fair-days, we experience the Long Night of Sports, for which we occupy the entire city of Hamburg. Finally, we crown and thank all visitors, exhibitors and sports fans with the Sportival Bash on Sunday, 1st September. The sports party that raises the roof of the exhibition halls one last time in the course of the Sportival.

In the darkness the pulse beats even higher: In the night from Friday to Saturday it's time for spread the energy – at night!
Everywhere in Hamburg, side events are awaiting us for almost every sport, inviting us to open competitions to join in and connect clubs with sportspeople. The Long Night of Sports!

There is only one reasonable way, how a festival like this can end: dance, drinks and discussions – glitter, gin and giggles! The Sportival BASH in the Hamburg Exhibition Hall pushes us to the limit and brings the feast back to the Festival. The only question is, wich pain will we feel first?

Hamburg as a venue

Why Hamburg?

Some will remember Hamburg as the sports city of Germany that it used to be. The gateway to the world held every ball, opened the way to success for elite athletes, sent visitors from all over the world to the visitors gallery. Hamburg at its best had 817 sports clubs and 585 thousand members, hosts the Cyclassics and the World Triathlon and – finally – the Ironman again this year. Yes, there were setbacks with bankruptcies and resignations in handball, volleyball and ice hockey. Yes, there were deep hits with the relegation of the football/soccer team.

But over all crises stands the courage that the city puts into the sport. With the initiative Active City, Hamburg shows that sport is more than the struggle for sponsorship, patronage and viewer ratings. Sport is not just high performance, league competition and money machine. Sport belongs to the professional and the amateur, the student and the houseman, the careerist and the schoolchild. Sport is football/soccer and flamenco, trampoline and high diving, chess and sailing, console and climbing wall. Hamburg says: A city as a sport location can not only be measured by the success of performance teams of a few sports. It has to give all sports and enthusiasts a space for their passion. Because sport belongs to everyone. Hamburg owns the location, the sympathy and the fun that a city needs to be able to call itself a sports city. Therefore – for you and for Hamburg – the festival of sport takes place here: At the gateway to the world.
